Song Outline and Storyboard Sheets

I had Joanne Dowson follow these when we were filming and they really helped.

All Filmed Out

Well, since Friday night up until now, my Mum and I have basically filmed NONE STOP! We're absolutely exhausted.

Not only did we film, but we also got photo's for a possible album cover/digi pack which I am really pleased with.

Here are some sneak previews:

We set up my iPod speakers, so that I could lip sing to the song and it worked really well.

I have to thank my Mum, Joanne Dowson, massively as she didn't know how to use a camera until Friday. So I think she's done a FANTASTIC job if I say so myself.

This week I am going to edit my video together and hopefully have it posted by next week.

Friday Night Filming

I had an absolutely fantastic night filming last night in the poppy field. The sun was setting, the atmosphere was just perfect.

I had my mum set away the camera on the tripod and filmed the whole song in CU/MS/LS, however focussing more on the chorus as that's what I wanted the poppy field scene for.

Also, I got some cracking photo's for a possible album cover/digi-pack, so things seem to be going smooth...so far anyway!

Another day of filming ahead...i'll upload from images/footage when I have it uploaded onto my computer.

Helpful Contacts

I recently enquired about hiring/borrowing a shooting camera, with depth of field settings and I have been introduced to a great contact who has offered to help during the filming process for my final product.

He has access to all of the high-tech equiptment, which is fantastic, meaning that I won't have the task of having to locate companies to hire equiptment from. I have also been speaking with him and he seems to have a wide variety of knowledge about different types of cameras and what would be best in certain shooting conditions.

This is going to be extremely beneficial for myself, as I won't be filming the parts which I feature in the music video, as I will be singing/playing my guitar, however I am hoping that I will be able to use some high-tech equiptment to film the narrative side of my video.

So, I will keep you posted on the progress that I make with him and see what happens!

'Micro' Music Video - This Weeks Task

After many thoughts of what song I would use to produce my 'mini music video', I have actually chosen to use the song that I am planning to use for my final product.

The song is one of my own called 'Reach Out' and is all about childhood and people being afraid to speak up and share their problems with the world. I have mind mapped some of my ideas today:

The reason why I wanted to get some footage of a ballerina in a jewellery box is because the song starts off with the sound of a merry-go-round and actually reminded me of a ballerina in a jewellery box. I think I may have one, however if not I know people who do so can easily get some footage. This is what I mean:

I love the above image of the merry-go-round and ideally for my final product if I decided to film some footage of one, I would try and visit Brighton, as I know a perfect merry-go-round that looks exactly like this on the beach. So, I may have to add Brighton to my list of things to do this summer...it's an excuse for a holiday anyway!

I wanted to film all of the narrative in black and white to give a desired effect of memories and looking back on things. Also, to highlight the darkness of problems that people may hide from others. The black and white theme links in with the KT Tunstall video, which is good as it's linking to my research.

I mainly wanted to use ideas that I had for my final product as I wanted to test to see if they'd work and see how difficult they were to produce during production and post-production, so I will get a feel for that over the weekend during filming and next week, during editing!

I wanted to use a similar setting to the Colbie Caillat video, with the corn fields, however it's not the right time of year for that, so I have found a poppy field near where I live which I am hoping to film in on Friday night. Here, I will have someone film me singing and playing my guitar and I will actually play the song on iPod speakers, rather than play it on the guitar, as I want to get the timings right for when I actually sync up the song during editing.

I was planning on using myself singing just for the chorus', however I might film some footage in a poppy scene and then some in a woodland, walking between the trees and add that in between the narrative.

So, my research is linking in well with my 'mini music video'. I am not sure how long I will make this yet, however I am aiming for a minute. If things go well though, I may just get carried away and film the whole thing!!!

I am unsure as to whether a storyboard would be beneficial for the planning stages, however I will need to show my camera operator what kind of shots I want etc, so I think I will sketch out some drawings tomorrow.

It'd be nice to hear feedback on my ideas...so, what do you think?

Questionnaire Results

As you can see from my previous posts with the examples of each questionnaire, each questionnaire differs due to the music video that they relate to.

I uploaded the examples of each to show you the questions so that you understood the bar charts.

I have finally correlated my results from the questionnaires and here are my findings:

Some people actually put more than one answer from some questions, so that's why you might see a different in some of them, however I now have some good ideas on what people like and what people don't like.
