Written Support for Question 4 - Evaluation
By having the option to use advanced technology for this project, in terms of the camera that I used which enabled me to use depth of field settings, I was able to make my project look a lot more professional, as the use of the shallow focus/depth of field (deep focus) allowed the audience to watch the music video as if they were acting as the camera. The depth of field settings replicates the way the human eye works, so the footage looks more effective and makes more sense to the audience because when the human eye looks at something, the rest of the space around that object/person is blurred out, allowing the focus to be on one particular thing at one time, allowing more of a real-life effect to come to life within the video.
In terms of the crop function and the problems that I had with that, as I couldn't crop the picture down to the size that I wanted because the crop box wouldn't allow me to make it smaller, I have been told that the iMovie crop setting must lock itself to 16:9, meaning that it won't let me crop down an image even further. This explains the problem that I was having.
By having the option to add effects onto my work during post-production, I worked around this during the shooting process, as I knew from my research during pre-production that I would be adding the black and white effect to the narrative footage once I was up to the editing stages. By knowing this, I was knew that if I had footage that was too dark/too light, such as during the woods scene when the teenage girl is drinking whiskey. It is far too dark; however with the iMovie settings, I was able to lighten it up:
Also, in my question 4 evaluation video, I talked about how i'd used blogger within my project and how it'd been a huge help within the evaluation stages as I was able to go back through my blog and look at the progress that i'd made since the research and planning stages, to the production and final stages. Linking also with the audience feedback, blogger also helped as people were able to comment straight onto my blog posts and my teacher was able to give me direct feedback onto different blog posts, which was extremely helpful in terms of gathering audience feedback quick and easily. I also used email, Yahoo, to send out my audience feedback questions to gather feedback on different rough cuts of my video and I also sent out my advert and digipack through email to gather feedback on those. For the feedback that I gathered on the text effects for the front cover of the album, I added the comparisons of the texts into a powerpoint and then attached the powerpoint to an email to then sent out and gather feedback on them - Text Comparisons.
I was also able to attach links to my blog into an email to allow the audience to click straight onto a blog post and comment on how they thought my advert looked etc:
Overall, you can see here how I have used email to gather my audience feedback, but also how helpful it has been in terms of being able to gather the feedback extremely quick and easily; which has been a great piece of technology to use.
This post explains and expands on the video that I have previous posted (Question 4) and finalises my answer to question 4 of the evaluation questions.

Although the footage is still quite dark, before I lightened it up you were unable to see the actress at all:
As you can see, you can't even see the actress as the light was completely blocked out by the trees; however by having the access to iMovie settings where I could change the brightness and contrast of the footage, I was able to brighten it up so much so that you could see the actress.
I also changed some of the gradings on some of the footage of the artist when she was in the woods to ensure that the continuity was solid throughout and that there were no different colours within the trees, as it depended where the sun was shining as to what colours where bright/dark within the woods.
So by having the option to manipulate the settings within iMovie was a great help, as it made the filming easier as I knew that I could change things during post-production and didn't have to worry so much about them during the filming stages.

Written Support For Question 1
To support question 1 of my evaluation, I wanted to talk about the more general conventions that I have used within my music video, based on the forms and conventions of the pop/rock genre.
All of my artists used both narrative vs performance, with the exception of KT Tunstall; however Colbie, Sara and Gabrielle involved their performance within the narrative in a way, as they didn't switch to a different setting when they were shown singing in the videos. It was as if they were narrating the narrative that was apparent within the videos. This is where my idea of using narrative and performance came from, as I, the artist, was acting as a narrator to the narrative that was going on with the teenage girl and her story as she ran away from home.
The lyrics in the songs of the artists that I looked at also related and linked extremely well to the video that was being shown. Sara Bareilles was singing about being Brave and at the same time, a range of different people were shown expressing their personalities in different public places, which many people wouldn't do; which clearly showed how they were being brave and 'coming out of their shell'. Colbie was singing about her feelings towards her relationship and what she feels like when she is with her partner. The couple were shown to be extremely comfortable around each other and it reflected the lyrics within the song. Taylor was singing about how the boy she had fallen in love with belonged with her, and not the girl he was with at the time. As the song went on, he started to recognise her more and more and as they spent more time together, he realised that they were meant to be together. In Gabrielle's video, 'Please Don't Say You Love Me', a couple were shown and the audience got the impression that the girl within the relationship wasn't very happy with the guy she was with and she was shown to be frightened of commitment; however when they had a misunderstanding, she began to realise that he was the person she wanted to be with and this related to the lyrics extremely well. I chose to do the same, as the lyrics that I sang linked with the video that was on the screen and it did narrate the story of the teenage girl very well and this was reflected within my audience feedback, as people commented to me in person about how the lyrics really did reflect the video was being shown.
This leads on to the convention of the editing of the music videos within this genre, as each video that I looked at was edited to the rhythm/tempo. This editing really allowed the audience to watch the music video more easily, as it kind of made more sense and fitted in with their expectation of a music video, as most music videos are not out of sync and all seem to be edited to the beat of the song. During post-production, I spend hours trying to do this and I had suggestions to keep on going and trying to edit it so that it was slicker and fit with the beat even more. I did this and ensured that my video flowed more and worked well and after spending the time doing this, the video looked much better and began to flow much more.
Also, in terms of the mood/tone of the music videos, the colour of the video reflected that. As Gabrielle's video was kind of about a relationship that wasn't secure, the colour/tone of the video was dark and not particularly light, reflecting the mood of the video. The colours within the video were particularly bland; however in Taylor's video she had a lot of bright colours, reflecting the mood of the song as she was happy in the fact that she was in love. I also think that the reason there isn't much colour within Gabrielle's video is because it allows the audience to reflect more on the beauty of the lyrics as they're extremely beautiful and it is a very well written song.
Also, within the Ed Sheeran video it is completely black and white as the song is about a drug addict who has to earn money to live by becoming a prostitute, so thus the song has an extremely low tone:
Within my music video, the narrative parts of the video are also extremely love in tone and mood, as there is a similar storyline to the A-team video, as the girl has no home and she is also roaming the streets with no one to care for her - well at least she thinks that there is no one to care for her.
Overall, this supports the question 1 in terms of the general conventions of music videos.

My New Dreams Presentation - Overview of Whole Project
Today I did a presentation which included an overview of my whole project, explaining where my influences came from to produce the 3 products that I did.
Also, during my presentation, I noticed that one part of the video was slightly out of sync with the music, so I will re-post a final cut.
