Many of the videos that I have watched so far, feature some main solid sets and the shots seem to just switch between them and try out different angles throughout the music video with the main singer lip singing. Heart Attack by Demi is one of those video's. Some of them are extremely effective and capture the song, however I am preferring videos such as 'Everything Has Changed', which has more of story behind it. When I start to look at some KT Tunstall videos, her videos are mainly about her and her music as she is shown playing her guitar/piano etc and singing along, which I think is appropriate for a singer/songwriter to do, however sometimes it just doesn't work as well as story-based music videos.
The other day I also wondered how on earth a music video would be shot, as so many different shots are taken and I figured that i'd have to do the same as I did for my short film - film the sequence a number of different times from different angles/shots. I am looking forward to creating my own though, I have many ideas in mind!
So, Demi's video is based around some solid sets that jumps back to her and her band for the chorus and I like this moment as it captures her and her rocky exterior. I personally like this within a music video and I may possibly try and gather a band together to act as my backing band and I would lip sing at the front.
I love the lighting that has been used here to create the dark, aery atmosphere and if I was going to re-create something like that, I know a great place that I could use. I'd take a backing back to a studio that I know, that has white background and lighting facilities, so we could create some great effects whilst there and get the exact effect that I want to create.
There are also some effects that occur within Demi's video. It seems to relate to the black ink that she has on her hands and after the first chorus, she ends up with black ink all over her chest, linking with her lyrics 'Heart Attack', possibly suggesting dark emotions and thoughts that occur within her heart.
I found the video quite boring after a while though because it just kept switching between 3 different scenes: her band, the white background and black hands and the other setting with her in dark makeup:
So, overall I think that I like a mixture of a storyline and also switching back to lip-singing. I think i'd have an underlying storyline and for the chorus's, possibly show me and a backing band re-creating the music within the song and then have it switching back to the storyline.
