I have started to gather together a list of artists that fit into my genre of music and these are:
Taylor Swift
Singer/songwriter
Genre: Country/Country Pop/Pop/Pock Rock
KT Tunstall
Singer/Songwriter
Genre: Alternative rock/Folk/Country/Blues/Indie Pop/Folktronica
Colbie Caillat
Singer/songwriter
Genre: Pop/Pop Rock/Folk Pop/Blue Eyed Soul
This was interesting. Blue Eyed Soul is a genre in which is known as "white soul" and it's defined as rhythm/blues/soul music which is performed by white people.
Sara Berilles
Singer/songwriter
Genre: Pop rock/Piano Rock
Gabrielle Aplin
Singer/songwriter
Genre: Folk/Pop/Indie
I think these artists are going to be my main focus. They're all singer/songwriters and pretty much all play an instrument. The main genre's which occur throughout theses artists are: Pop/Rock, which my music fits perfectly into. There is also a slight hint of Country/Folk in there too.
Other artists which appealed to me to focus on were:
-Nina Nesbitt (Acoustic/Pop)
-Vanessa Carlton (Pop/Pop Rock/Piano Rock)
-Fiona Apple (Piano rock/Baroque pop/Jazz/Soul/Alternative rock/Experimental rock)
-Kate Voegele (Pop/Rock/Folk/Folk rock)
-Sarah Mclachlan (Pop/Soft rock/Adult Contemporary)
-Amy Macdonald (Rock/Indie rock/Folk)
-Nerina Pallot (Pop rock/Alternative rock)
-Suzanne Vega (Alternative Rock/Folk Rock)
-Tristan Prettyman
There artists are also all singer/songwriters, which is perfect and they aso fit the genre of music that I write, so this is also perfect!
When I was looking at different music videos on Vevo, it was strange because I already had my list of artists that I was looking at and then it suggested this:
After looking at some of my 'main focus artists' and their music videos, there was a slight link between them. They seemed to have an ongoing storyline, however also scenes of the singer singing/playing an instrument or both. I was planning on doing this anyway, so this is great!
